Fosroc Nitocote ET550 | Epoxy tar based high performance resin coating
Uses
Nitocote ET550 is designed to protect concrete and metal structures against corrosion in aggressive environments. It’s suitable for various applications, including tanks above ground or in submerged conditions like pipelinings. Particularly useful in sewage works, effluent plants, dock, and harbor installations.
Advantages
- High film build in a single application
- Easy application by brush or spray
- Long-term corrosion protection
- Often doesn’t require priming
- Chemical and abrasion-resistant
- Economical and versatile
Description
It’s a thixotropic pitch-extended epoxy amine adduct formulation containing reinforcing inert fillers and special blend of solvents. Supplied as a two-component system comprising a blend of epoxy resins and a separate low-viscosity amine hardener.
Technical Support
Fosroc offers technical support services and on-site technical assistance in various locations.
Design Criteria
Nitocote ET550 is recommended to be applied in two coats to achieve a minimum total dry film thickness of 350 microns. Application rates and methods are provided for achieving the correct protective properties.
Properties
- Specific gravity: 1.38 – 1.40
- Volume Solids Mixed: 66% (approx)
- Recommended thickness:
- Dry film thickness (DFT): 350 microns
- Wet film thickness (WFT): 530 microns
Application Guidelines
Surface preparation for concrete involves cleaning, drying, and ensuring it’s free from laitance, loose particles, and previous coatings. For steel, removal of rust, millscale, and impurities is necessary through blast cleaning. Specific instructions are also provided for hot-dip galvanized steel.
Mixing
Thoroughly mix both components until a homogeneous mixture is achieved. Adjust the viscosity if necessary by adding Nitoflor Sol.
Application
Nitocote ET550 can be applied by brush or spray for a uniform finish. Guidelines for airless spray equipment and pressure settings are provided. Cleaning of tools should be done with Nitoflor Sol immediately after use.
Estimating and Packaging
Supplied in 18L packs, Nitocote ET550 has theoretical and practical coverage rates depending on substrate condition and application method.
Storage and Precautions
The shelf life is six months if stored at 30°C. It’s important to follow health and safety instructions regarding handling epoxy resins and flammability precautions for Nitocote ET550 and Nitoflor Sol.
This coating seems versatile and offers comprehensive protection against various environmental conditions while providing detailed application instructions and safety guidelines.
