Mapei Primer G | Synthetic resin-based water-dispersion primer with very low volatile organic compound (VOC)
Primer G is a synthetic resin-based water-dispersion primer suitable for various purposes related to preparing surfaces before installing ceramic tiles, enhancing adhesion, and providing uniform absorption on cementitious or gypsum surfaces. Here’s an overview of its uses, technical characteristics, application procedures, and safety instructions:
Where to Use
- Treating gypsum surfaces before installing ceramic tiles.
- Anchoring coat for gypsum-based sprayable plasters.
- Improving adhesion of smoothing compounds on cementitious, anhydrite, and gypsum-based surfaces.
- Providing uniform absorption in cementitious or gypsum surfaces.
Technical Characteristics
- Forms a flexible, compact, shiny coating after application, consolidating and improving the surface.
- Prevents chemical reactions between sulphates and cement alluminates in gypsum, which can cause the formation of “ettringite.”
- Reduces substrate absorption when papering, aiding wallpaper removal.
- Does not waterproof gypsum substrates but considerably reduces porosity and absorption.
Recommendations
- Avoid applying onto magnesium substrates or for external applications where rising damp is present.
- Dilute with water appropriately for the absorption of the substrate; do not apply in a quantity that forms a surface film.
Application Procedure
Preparing the Substrate
- Ensure the substrate is clean, dry, free from oils, grease, residual paint, and loose material.
- Follow manufacturer recommendations for gypsum-plaster regarding moisture content and surface finishing.
- Repair cracks in concrete surfaces if present.
Application
- Use Primer G as a treatment for ceramic tiles on gypsum, as an anchoring coat for gypsum plasters, or as a primer for various compounds based on dilution and application method.
- Spread uniformly on the surface with a brush or roller without dilution or appropriately diluted based on the intended application.
Cleaning
- Tools and containers should be cleaned immediately with clean water. Dry residues may require mechanical removal or a suitable cleaning agent.
Consumption and Packaging
- Consumption depends on surface porosity and absorption, typically between 0.08 and 0.15 kg/m².
- Available in 25, 10, and 5 kg plastic drums and 1 kg bottles.
Storage and Safety Instructions
- Store in original unopened packaging for up to 12 months, protecting from frost.
- Safety instructions for preparation and application are available in the Safety Data Sheet on the manufacturer’s website.
