Mapeset is a cement-based adhesive used for fixing ceramic tiles and mosaics on various substrates such as cementitious or gypsum surfaces. Here are the key details about its uses, technical characteristics, application procedures, and safety instructions:

Where to Use

• Interior fixing of ceramic tiles, double-fired or single-fired, on floors and walls on cementitious or gypsum substrates.
• Suitable for cement-rendered walls, brick walls, and cementitious based screeds that are sufficiently dry and cured.

Technical Characteristics

• Grey powder composed of cement, selected granulometry sand, synthetic resins, and special additives.
• Mixed with water to form a trowelable creamy paste.
• Hardens without significant shrinkage, attains good strength, and adheres well to building materials.

Recommendations

• Avoid use on certain surfaces like wood, metallic, rubber, PVC, glass mosaics, or surfaces subject to strong movement.
• Not suitable for prefabricated concrete or heated/existing floors.
• Grouting with specific MAPEI grouts after 12 hours.

Application Procedures

Substrate Preparation

• Ensure surfaces are cured, mechanically resistant, clean, free from loose particles, grease, paint, wax, and sufficiently dry.

Mixture Preparation

• Mix Mapeset with clean water to form a lump-free paste. The quantity of water used is 4.6 liters per 20 kg of Mapeset. The mixture remains workable for approximately 4 – 6 hours.

Application of the Mixture

• Apply Mapeset on the substrate with a notched trowel, achieving coverage of at least 65-70% on the back of the tile.
• First apply a thin layer using the smooth side of the trowel, followed by the required thickness using the notched side.

Installation of Tiles

• Tiles can be installed in the normal way without pre-wetting. Press firmly to ensure good contact with the adhesive.
• Open time of Mapeset under normal conditions is 15-20 minutes.

Grouting and Sealing

• Grouting can be done after 12 hours using specific MAPEI grouts available in various colors.
• Seal expansion joints with specific MAPEI sealants.

Set to Light Foot Traffic

• Floors are set to light foot traffic after about 24 hours.

Ready for Use

• Surfaces are ready for use after about 14 days.

Packaging and Storage

• Mapeset is supplied in white and grey colors packed in 20 kg paper bags. Store in a dry place in the original sealed packaging for up to 12 months.

• Mapeset contains cement and can be irritant. Wear protective gloves and goggles during use. In case of contact with eyes or skin, wash immediately with plenty of water and seek medical attention.
