CONSTRUCTION INSTRUCTIONS
Properly applying Sika MultiSeal AP is crucial to ensure a watertight and long-lasting seal. Follow these detailed construction instructions to achieve the best results:
1. SUBSTRATE PREPARATION
Before you begin, ensure that the substrate is clean, dry, and sound. The preparation process differs for non-porous and porous substrates:
For Non-Porous Substrates (e.g., metals, plastics, coated surfaces, glazed tiles):
- Clean the surface to remove any dust, dirt, or contaminants.
- Using a clean towel, apply Sika Aktivator-205 to the substrate. Make sure to cover the entire area to be sealed.
- Allow a flash-off time of more than 15 minutes but no more than 6 hours before proceeding with the application.
For Porous Substrates (e.g., concrete, aerated concrete, cementitious plasters, mortars, brick, etc.):
- Prime the surface with a bituminous primer, such as SikaProof Membrane, using a brush.
- Ensure even coverage and allow a flash-off time of more than 1 hour before applying Sika MultiSeal AP.
2. APPLICATION METHOD / TOOLS
Once the substrate is prepared, you can proceed with the application of Sika MultiSeal AP:
- Measure and cut the tape to the required length, leaving a slight excess to ensure complete coverage.
- Remove the release film from the bottom side of the tape, exposing the adhesive surface.
- Carefully align the tape over the area to be sealed and press it firmly onto the substrate.
- Use a suitable roller to apply even pressure along the entire length of the tape. This step helps to ensure proper adhesion.
- If you need to overlap multiple strips of Sika MultiSeal AP, make sure the overlap is at least 5 cm to maintain a watertight seal.
3. HEATING FOR IMPROVED ADHESION
To enhance the adhesion performance of Sika MultiSeal AP, you have the option to heat the tape during application:
- Gently heat the tape using a heat gun or propane torch. Be cautious not to overheat and damage the product or the substrate.
- Heating the tape makes it more pliable and increases its adhesive properties, especially in cold conditions.

4. CLEANING OF EQUIPMENT
After completing the application, it’s essential to clean your tools and equipment properly to maintain their effectiveness and prolong their lifespan:
- Use Sika® Remover-208 to clean any tools or application equipment that came into contact with Sika MultiSeal AP. This ensures that the equipment remains in good working condition for future use.
5. ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS
- The upper side of Sika MultiSeal AP can be over-painted with most conventional paint systems, allowing for customization and aesthetic matching.
- Do not use Sika MultiSeal AP on natural stone, as it may not adhere properly.
- Avoid direct contact with joint sealants and adhesives. If contact is necessary, perform compatibility tests before applying to ensure a proper bond.
By following these detailed construction instructions, you can maximize the effectiveness of Sika MultiSeal AP in your sealing and repair applications. Whether you are working on roofing projects or other construction elements, this reliable and versatile sealing tape will help you achieve a durable and waterproof seal, ensuring the integrity and longevity of your structures.
