CONSTRUCTION INSTRUCTIONS
Proper application of Sika Igolflex R is crucial to ensure the best performance and longevity of the protective coating. Follow these step-by-step construction instructions to achieve a successful application:

1. SUBSTRATE PREPARATION
- New Surfaces: Ensure that new concrete, screed, or render surfaces have a brushed or wood float finish. These surfaces should be free from contamination that may affect adhesion. Repair any surface defects using approved methods, and remove protrusions greater than 3mm.
- Existing Surfaces: For existing concrete, screed, or render, it’s essential to prepare the substrate to provide a dense, defect-free surface.
- Surface Moisture: Concrete surfaces should be mat-moist, ensuring there is no standing water on the surface.
- Brickwork, Blockwork, and Masonry: These surfaces should be flush pointed.
- Horizontal and Vertical Intersections: Profile all intersections of horizontal and vertical surfaces with a mortar fillet of 25 x 25 mm.
2. MIXING
- Sika Igolflex R does not require mechanical mixing. Instead, stir the product manually with a plastic spatula until it reaches a smooth, consistent texture.
3. APPLICATION METHOD / TOOLS
- Sika Igolflex R can be applied using various methods, including a wide nylon brush, sheepskin disposable rollers, or spraying*.
- The product should be applied in 2 or 3 equal coats, with a recommended thickness of 0.6–0.8 kg/m², depending on your specific application requirements.
- Allow each coat to dry fully before applying the next one. Subsequent coats should be applied at right angles to the previous coat.
- It is essential that the product is not applied in wet conditions or exposed to water until it has fully dried. The waiting time between coats typically ranges from 6 to 12 hours, depending on ambient conditions.
4. OVERLAYING WITH SCREED
- The waterproofing system should be allowed to cure for at least 72 hours before overlaying it with screed.
- For large areas, place a polythene sheet to isolate the screed from the Sika Igolflex R membrane.
- At day joints, ensure that the Sika Igolflex R membrane overlaps the existing cured membrane by at least 100 mm.
- If the lapping joint is dirty or contaminated, clean it using an approved solvent.
5. CLEANING OF EQUIPMENT
- Clean all tools and application equipment with water immediately after use. Hardened or cured material can only be removed mechanically.
6. FINAL CURE
- Allow the Sika Igolflex R coating to cure for 2–4 days, depending on climate and coat thickness. Final curing times may vary.
By following these construction instructions meticulously, you can ensure that Sika Igolflex R performs optimally, providing the protection and waterproofing your construction project needs. Always refer to the product’s technical information and local regulations for additional guidance and safety considerations.
*When spraying, use a high-pressure spray gun with feed pressure 4 atm g, atomizer pressure 5 atm g, and nozzle size 6 mm for best results.
