CONSTRUCTION INSTRUCTIONS
The Revinex System offers a versatile and reliable solution for waterproofing, but achieving the best results requires proper construction techniques. Follow these detailed construction instructions to ensure a successful application:
1. Substrate Preparation:
The first step in the application of the Revinex System is to thoroughly prepare the cementitious substrate. This process is essential to create a suitable surface for the waterproofing system and ensure its long-term effectiveness. Follow these steps:
- Mechanical Preparation: Use mechanical methods such as grinding, water jetting, shot blasting, or milling to smooth out irregularities in the substrate. These processes also help open the pores of the substrate, enhancing adhesion.
- Removal of Old Coatings: Completely remove any older coatings and loose, friable materials from the substrate. This can be achieved by brushing or using a suitable sander in combination with a high-suction vacuum cleaner.
- Repairs: Address substrate imperfections, joint filling, blowholes, voids, and surface leveling as needed. For areas with tie holes, cut and open them to a depth of approximately 3cm and then apply an appropriate repairing product like the non-shrinking fiber-reinforced cementitious mortar Neorep®.
- Treatment of Oxidized Reinforcement: If any oxidized reinforcement is visible, remove the loose rust and use a rust converter like Neodur® Metalforce. Then, apply an anti-corrosive mortar such as Ferrorep®. Cover these spots with Neorep® as well.
- Address Water Flow Areas: In spots where there is existing water flow, consider using Neostop® before applying the Revinex System.
- Surface Cleanliness: Prior to applying the Revinex System, ensure that the substrate is stable, clean, and free from dust, oil, grease, dirt, moss, or any poorly adhering materials. The surface should also be as flat and smooth as possible.

2. Priming:
Proper priming is crucial to the success of the waterproofing application. Priming enhances adhesion and ensures a solid bond between the substrate and the Revinex System. Follow these steps:
- Moistening: Thoroughly moisten the cementitious surface with water. Begin the application once a saturated surface-dry (SSD) condition is achieved, without any ponding water.
- Alternative Priming: An alternative to moistening the surface is to prime it with a roller using the co-polymer emulsion Revinex® diluted with water in a ratio of Revinex® : water – 1:4.
3. Application:
The application of the Revinex System involves a few key steps, and it is important to follow them meticulously to ensure a watertight seal. Here’s how to apply the system:
- Component Mixing: To the specified amount of Component B (liquid), gradually add the appropriate amount of Component A (powder) of the Revinex® Flex System. While doing so, stir the mixture continuously with a low-speed electric stirrer until it becomes homogeneous, without any lumps.
- Reinforcement with Fiberglass Mesh: Apply the mixture initially in all the corners reinforced with the alkali-resistant fiberglass mesh Gavazzi® 0059-A. This process involves the “wet-on-wet” application of two layers with the fiberglass mesh positioned in between.
- Horizontal and Vertical Application: Simultaneously apply the mixture in one layer over the whole horizontal and/or vertical surfaces using a brush or smooth trowel.
- Multiple Layers (if needed): Once the first layer of the cementitious waterproofing has hardened and is slightly saturated with water, apply the second waterproofing layer in a vertical or different direction than the previous one. Continue applying subsequent layers if required.
- Layer Thickness: Ensure that the thickness of each layer does not exceed 1mm to allow for proper curing of the material.
- Reinforcement with Fiberglass Mesh: For enhanced tear resistance, thoroughly reinforce the system with the appropriate alkali-resistant fiberglass mesh. Use N-Thermon® Mesh 90gr for the systems Revinex® Flex + water or Revinex® Flex + Revinex® Flex FP, and Gavazzi® 0059-A for the systems Revinex® Flex + Revinex® Flex U360 or Revinex® Flex + Revinex® Flex ES.
4. Protection and Curing:
- After the application of the final layer, take steps to protect the waterproofing system from adverse external weather conditions, including direct sunlight, wind, rain, and frost, for a duration of 3-5 days.
Special Notes:
- Avoid Wet Conditions: Do not apply the Revinex System under wet conditions or if wet weather is expected during the application or curing period.
- Curing Time: Allow the Revinex System to cure for 5 to 8 days before overcoating with tiles or other coatings.
- Tile Adhesive: If tiles are being applied over the Revinex System, make sure the tile adhesive has sufficient elasticity (such as C2TE S1).
- Water Tank Application: In case of applying the system in non-potable water tanks, fill the tanks with water after at least 7-10 days (depending on prevailing atmospheric conditions) have passed since the application of the final layer. Dispose of the water used for the initial filling of the tank.
- Enhancing Durability: The waterproofing system’s durability, especially its resistance to water pressures, can be enhanced by increasing the total dry film thickness. This can be achieved by applying additional layers.
- Cementitious Substrates: Do not apply the system on cementitious substrates that are not sufficiently cured.
These detailed construction instructions will guide you through the proper application of the Revinex System, ensuring a reliable and long-lasting waterproofing solution for your construction project.
