CONSTRUCTION INSTRUCTIONS
Proper installation is essential to ensure the effectiveness and longevity of your anchoring applications using Sika AnchorFix-1. Follow these detailed construction instructions to achieve optimal results.
1. SUBSTRATE QUALITY
Before applying Sika AnchorFix-1, it’s crucial to assess and prepare the substrate properly:
- Strength Assessment: Ensure that the mortar and concrete are of the required strength for your specific application. It is not necessary for the concrete to be 28 days old, but it must be strong enough to support the anchor.
- Substrate Strength Verification: If you are unsure about the strength of the substrate, particularly in the case of concrete, masonry, or natural stone, conduct tests to verify its strength. Pull-out tests are recommended to determine the load-bearing capacity of the substrate.
- Clean Anchor Hole: The anchor hole must always be clean, dry, and free from contaminants such as oil, grease, dust, or any loose particles. Use compressed air or a blow pump to clean the hole thoroughly.
- Threaded Rod and Rebar Preparation: If you are anchoring threaded rods or rebars, make sure they are clean and free of any oil, grease, or other substances. Cleaning is essential for ensuring a strong bond.
2. MIXING SIKA ANCHORFIX-1
Proper mixing of Sika AnchorFix-1 is essential for consistent and reliable results. Follow these steps:
- Cartridge Preparation:
- Unscrew the cap from the Sika AnchorFix-1 cartridge.
- Cut the film covering the cartridges.
- Attach the static mixer securely to the cartridge.
- Place the cartridge into the caulking gun, ready for application.
- Continuity of Mixing: If your work is interrupted, you can leave the static mixer on the cartridge as long as the gun pressure has been relieved. If the adhesive has hardened in the nozzle when work is resumed, attach a new nozzle.

3. APPLICATION METHOD / TOOLS
Properly applying Sika AnchorFix-1 is crucial for effective anchoring. Follow these steps to ensure a secure bond:
- For Anchors in Solid Masonry or Concrete:
- Drilling: Use an electric drill to create a hole with the required diameter and depth. The diameter of the drill hole must match the size of the anchor.
- Cleaning the Hole: After drilling, clean the hole with a blow pump or compressed air. Start the cleaning process from the bottom of the hole and ensure that it’s free from any debris. It’s essential to use oil-free compressors for this step.
- Special Steel Brush: Thoroughly clean the drill hole with a special steel brush. The brush’s diameter should be larger than the hole’s diameter to ensure a clean and proper bond.
- Second Cleaning: Once again, clean the hole with a blow pump or compressed air, starting from the bottom of the hole. Use oil-free compressors.
- Adhesive Preparation: Pump the caulking gun approximately twice to ensure that both components come out uniformly. Avoid using material if the components do not mix uniformly. Release the gun pressure and clean the cartridge opening with a cloth.
- Injecting Adhesive: Inject the mixed adhesive into the hole, starting from the bottom and slowly drawing back the static mixer. It’s crucial to avoid entrapping air during the injection process. For deeper holes, consider using extension tubing to ensure proper adhesive distribution.
- Anchor Insertion: Insert the anchor into the filled drill hole with a rotary motion. Ensure that some adhesive comes out of the hole during this process. Importantly, the anchor must be placed within the open time of the adhesive.
- Curing: During the resin hardening time, the anchor must not be moved or loaded. It’s essential to allow the adhesive to cure fully to achieve the desired bond strength.
- Tool Cleaning: Immediately wash all tools, including the caulking gun, static mixer, and any other equipment, with Sika Colma Cleaner. Proper tool maintenance ensures they remain in good condition for future use.
- Personal Safety: Don’t forget to wash your hands and skin thoroughly with warm soapy water after handling Sika AnchorFix-1 to remove any adhesive residue.
By following these detailed construction instructions, you can ensure the proper and effective use of Sika AnchorFix-1 in your construction applications, providing strong and durable anchor points that meet the highest industry standards.
