Fosroc Supercast SW20 | Swellable waterstops for in-situ concrete
The Supercast SW20 is a swellable waterstop designed to seal construction joints in concrete cast in-situ where conventional waterstops might not be practical due to limited access or complex shuttering. Here’s an overview:
Uses
- Integral sealing for construction joints in concrete where conventional waterstops are challenging to use due to limited access.
- Convenient solution in situations requiring complex shuttering for conventional waterstops.
- Suitable for secant piled and diaphragm walled basements, pile caps, casting against old concrete, and detailing pipe entries and kicker joints.
- Can be combined with Supercast PVC waterstops to maintain network continuity.
Advantages
- Easy installation via bonding, nailing, or casting into joint faces.
- Factory-made connectors facilitate full integration with Supercast PVC networks.
- Provides solutions for detailing in conjunction with Supercast PVC.
- Swelling properties remain unaffected by long-term wet/dry cycles.
- Tolerant of salts in concrete and groundwater, maintaining an effective seal in wet conditions.
Standards Compliance
- Suitable for use in contact with potable water – Water Byelaws Scheme Approved product: Listing No. 9312507.
Description Supercast SW20 is a swellable waterstop that can be integrated into conventional Supercast PVC waterstop networks. Made from high-performance synthetic elastomer strips, its swelling action upon contact with water prevents water passage through joints in concrete. The swelling creates positive pressure against the concrete, sealing the joint effectively.
Design Criteria
- Used to prevent water passage through non-movement joints in new in-situ concrete and between new and existing concrete.
- Swelling range of up to 300% and resistance to hydraulic heads of up to 100 meters.
- Suitable for applications between existing and newly placed concrete with minimal steel continuity, allowing for some movement.
- Requires a minimum concrete cover of 70mm to accommodate swelling pressure.
Properties
- Form: Rectangular section elastomeric strips (10mm X 20mm)
- Solids content: 100%
- Hardness Shore ‘A’: 25 to 35
- Unrestrained volumetric expansion: Up to 300%
- Application temperature range: -20° to 50°C
- Service temperature range: -30° to 70°C
- Hydrostatic pressure resistance: 100 meters (10 bar)
Installation Instructions
- Positioned by bonding with adhesive or nailing into a groove in concrete or directly onto the concrete surface.
- Complete application instructions available in a separate leaflet.
Limitations
- Not suitable for significant repetitive movements or expansion joints.
- Requires a minimum of 70mm concrete cover to accommodate swelling pressure.
- Should not be used where free unrestrained swelling is allowed.
Estimating
- Supply: Supercast SW20 comes in 5-meter rolls.
- Storage: Shelf life of 12 months when stored in cool, dry conditions away from sunlight in the original, unopened containers.
The Supercast SW20 offers a convenient and effective solution for sealing construction joints in concrete, particularly in situations where traditional waterstops face limitations.
