Maxbond 1211 Flexible Cementitious Membrane: Product Information and Application Guidelines
Product Overview
Description: Maxbond 1211 is a 2-component waterproofing system consisting of a special acrylic polymer and preblended filler powder. This flexible membrane is designed to seal hairline cracks, providing excellent adhesion to various surfaces, including concrete, masonry, bricks, aerated screeds, plastics, plywood, and metal. The membrane exhibits high abrasion resistance after initial curing, allowing for maintenance foot traffic over its surfaces.
Design Features
- User-Friendly System:
- Simple preparation and application procedures.
- Does not require highly trained personnel or specialized application equipment.
- Liquid Applied System:
- Forms a seamless physical layer of waterproof barrier without joints and overlapping.
- Eliminates potential weak points common in high-performance sheet membranes.
- Crack Bridging and Flexibility:
- Able to bridge hairline cracks and accommodate minor movement and vibration.
- Cementitious Water-Based Formulation:
- Compliments bonding strength of wet trade finishes.
- Eliminates defects such as hollowness, cracking, and de-bonding.
- Fully Bonded Membrane:
- Cures to become a fully bonded membrane, preventing water migration.
- Allows for easy localization of any leakage and permits simple spot repairs.
- Stain-Resistant:
- Will not stain plaster, tile, or paints in direct contact with the membrane surface.
- Approved for Water Containment Tanks:
- Suitable for use in water containment tanks for drinking water.
- Premium Quality Formulation:
- Formulated with premium quality polymers and additives to outperform similar products in elongation and tensile properties.
Performance Data and Recommended Areas
Recommended Areas:
- Internal and external wet areas (e.g., bathroom, kitchen, balcony, corridor, E-deck, planter box, RC ledge).
- Water containment structures (e.g., RC tank, pool, pond, water feature).
- Over ground slab as a barrier against raising dampness.
- Envelope building wall as a barrier against rainwater seepages.
Performance Data (Test Standard Value):
- Initial Hardness (ASTM D-2240): 50 Shore A
- Adhesion Strength after Water Immersion (BS EN 14891): >0.6 N/mm²
- Crack Bridging (BS EN 14891): >1.0 mm
- Tensile Strength (ASTM D-412): >1.4 N/mm²
- Elongation @ Break (ASTM D-412): >150%
- Water Penetration (1.5 bar for 7 days, BS EN 14891): No Penetration
- Set-To-Touch Time (ASTM D-1640): 50 mins
Surface Preparation
- Ensure the substrate is sound, clean, and monolithic.
- Remove cement laitance, mildew, oil, grease, etc.
- Level honeycombs, voids, rough surfaces, exposed rebars, and cracks above 2mm with non-shrink grout or sealant.
Mixing Proportions
- Maxbond 1211 Liquid Polymer (Part A): 9 kg
- Maxbond 1211 Filler Powder (Part B): 15 kg
- Pour liquid polymer into a container and slowly add filler powder while stirring constantly with an electric mixer.
- Ensure a uniform smooth texture free from lumps.
Application
- Dampen the Substrate:
- Thoroughly dampen the substrate before application.
- Coat Application:
- Apply with a paint roller or brush to achieve a minimum 0.6mm thick coat.
- Allow the membrane to become touch-dry before applying a second coat at the same thickness.
- Water Containment Tanks:
- Water ponding test may be conducted after the first 24 hours.
- Additional coat recommended for water containment tanks as a precaution against added stress and movement.
Packaging and Coverage
- Packaging: 24kg set (9kg Part A, 15kg Part B).
- Other packaging available for retail.
- Coverage: Approximately 0.75 – 1.0 kg per m² for a 0.6mm thick coat.
Storage & Shelf Life
- Keep elevated in a dry, moisture-free condition.
- Can be stored for 12 months in sealed original paper bags and 24 months in a sealed original plastic container.
Health & Safety
- Prevent contact with skin and wear waterproof gloves and goggles.
- Wash with soap and water if there is skin contact.
- In case of eye contact, flush with water and seek medical attention.
Important Note
- Information is given in good faith based on current knowledge and experience.
- Users must test the product’s suitability for the intended application.
- Effective from the date of issue, superseding all previous editions.
- Values are typical and not meant as performance benchmarks.
